Five people were killed, and seventeen more were infected. It was the worst case of bioterrorism in American history, setting off a surge of finger pointing, xenophobia, and fear.
But what started as an unprecedented case soon turned into an unsettling mystery. Who had sent these letters? And why?
On season 4 of Cover Up, we trace the FBI’s costly investigation into the attacks, which was stacked with a seemingly endless series of false leads, damaging leaks, and embarrassing blunders. SEASON 3: Body Brokers
For eight years, Megan Hess ran Sunset Mesa Funeral Home in the small town of Montrose, Colorado. She promised clients discounts on normally expensive cremations, a seeming kindness in a town where many are poor. But in the back of the funeral home, Megan’s elderly mother Shirley was actually dismembering the dead. And then Megan was selling the body parts – heads, torsos, legs – to companies that claim to do medical research. Megan and Shirley were body brokers, trading on a dark network where people buy and sell bodies. What exactly were the two women after? Who was really buying those stolen bodies, and why?
SEASON 2: The Pill Plot
Back in the ‘90s, a ragtag group plotted an international drug smuggling scheme and set up a secretive lab to cook up tablets. In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname.
Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers (who all say they are innocent!) turned jailhouse-lawyers. In prison they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away. It's annoying how softly she deals with Philip - a guy who not only butchered people for profit but also couldn't have cared less if you or your loved one got HIV, cancer, hepatitis, etc from bodies he knew should never have be used for donations. She lets him play it off like he did everything ethically and legally until just the very end when he maybe made some poor choices. She characterizes his vile, mercenary motives as merely "irresponsible" and "dangerous". He sounded proud of his scheme.

I love this show but when you take out the ads the episodes are super short. it's a bummer. you barely start getting into the story and it's over.
This is enough information for a 10 minute episode drawn out for over half an hour. It repeats endlessly to the point one almost switches off. Listen to any episode of BBC Witness History to learn how a story is told in around the same time. Maybe it’s aimed at a younger audience.
The narration style makes the show. If you ever listened to old a m radio stories, you would probably appreciate it. It fits the time period of the story and is so very British. Love it.

I enjoy this topic, but the narration is much too long winded and frankly doesn't spend enough time on the actual incidents. I find myself bored listening to it. it takes a lot to take a topic I love and make it sound boring. Especially the description of imaginary movie scenes, with imaginary casting, all I can think is, were they short on time and needed filler so they threw this in to bump up the time?
I am gery interested in the topic but struggled with the narration style. I would much rather just hear the story and not be distracted by the little jokes.
